THE BRAVE TIN SOLDIER

Puppentheater am Meininger Theater

(Germany) AGE: 6+ DURATION: 50 mins.

suzu

A story about feeling and understanding, being and seeming, about differences – and equilibrium. The tin of a spoon was sufficient to cast only 24 identical toy comrades; the 25th is missing a leg. Although he manages to stand as steadfast on one leg as the others on two, there is no space for him in the toy box. This stigma means he has a different way of life. He is excluded from the community of tin soldiers. Outside the gates he sees a dancer standing on one leg while she is dancing. He falls in love with her and an odyssey into a hostile world starts...THE BRAVE TIN SOLDIER is a story of hearts and minds, appearance and reality, a metaphor for being different and the problem of not losing one’s balance. How much strength do people who don’t come up to our standards require to stand up to society?
After the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen.
