Giving Children Fantastic Theater!

July 25 to August 2 2009
The Osaka Executive Committee of the International Performing Arts Festival OSAKA for Children and Young Audience is launching Tactan 2009 with the slogan “Giving Children Fantastic Theater!” Taking place over nine days (July 25 to August 2), the festival is happening in six locations in Osaka City (Osaka Asahi Ward Community Center, Osaka City Geijutsu Souzoukan, Osaka City Children’s Culture Center, Kids Plaza Osaka, Osaka City Asahi Library, Osaka Municipal Shirokita Citizens’ Learning Center).

This mammoth event has been happening every summer since its launch in Osaka in 2007, in cooperation with the four other East Asian cities of Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei and in Okinawa.

This year marks the third for the Festival, with the venue numbers expanding to six inside Osaka City, and participants hailing from a total of nine countries – Germany, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Canada, Indonesia, Korea and Japan. On top of the performances of some 20 works, there will also be international symposia and workshops, with more than 30 programs in total happening throughout the 9-day Festival. The panel for the symposia includes ASSITEJ International President Wolfgang Schneider, ASSITEJ International Secretary General Ivica Simic, and ASSITEJ Denmark Director Peter Manscher. The talks will also see various guest speakers from all over the globe gathering to discuss the current state of children’s theater and its future.
