The following sentences are exactly the same as what I wrote last year in the programme. If I look back over the past year, I find that the society hasn’t been changed yet. Nothing might be changed during my life. Even though, we have to keep doing. It is only human beings who can change the world, and this message is what we want to pass to our children.
（from the programme 2009） I always ask myself: Why should you hold a festival? Is a festival important for society? Will children enjoy the works we select?
Adults are the main focus of our society. Whatever else, children are always placed second. However, we want to see things through the eyes of the underdog. The stage artists congregating for this Festival from around the world have the power to evoke this perspective. Although the strength of live performance is undeniable, more than the work itself it is the humans making it who can create something that reaches out to children. We are learning so much by this Festival
But this Festival is not just something for children. When children are moved, so too are we. Cultivating a child’s spirit is an expression of an adult’s heart too.
But this Festival is not just something for children. When children are moved, so too are we. so too are we. Cultivating a child’s spirit is an expression of an adult’s heart too. (June 2009)
A fantastic play has a power to change the world. It touches us, and let us glance the view that is different to yesterday. This year, again, a number of fantastic pieces were gathered in Osaka! Let’s raise the joy of living together!
